The center holds
Bélâbre’s last small businesses
Bélâbre, a small town in France’s center region, counts less than a thousand inhabitants. Its small center holds about forty small businesses which inhabitants from surrounding villages (some larger) depend on. With the overwhelming increase of superstores, the “start-up-ization” of small business regulations, and the migration of younger generation towards cities, local business-owners struggle to stay open. Through lit and directed portraits and scenes, this series pays tribute to these generations of shop owners, their craft, and their struggle.
